GOVT 2305 Midterm Exam Study Guide

The Midterm Exam is an online exam that is required to be taken in a Navarro College Testing Center (or another testing center approved by my after a Proctor Agreement Form has been submitted to me). The exam covers material from the first half of the course (Units 1 & 2). There will be 80 questions with questions from each chapter. The study guide below will generally guide students on topics that may be on the exam. This is not an exhaustive list but a general guide of major topics covered in each chapter. Students who have read the chapters and successfully completed all of the work in the course should be well prepared.

Chapter 3-	republic, confederation, Constitutional Convention, Great Compromise, separation of powers, checks and balances, articles of the Constitution, ratification of the Constitution, types of powers granted in/by the Constitution, Bill of Rights, 14th Amendment
Chapter 4-	federalism, powers of congress, types of federalism, elastic clause, Supreme Court-supremacy clause, McCullouch v. Maryland
Chapter 5-	public opinion, types of distribution polls, mean, political socialization, all agents of political socialization, socioeconomic status, political ideology
Chapter 6-	mass communication, mass media, internet, infotainment, Telecommunications Act of 1996, fairness doctrine, off the record, gatekeepers
Chapter 8-	nomination, Democrat Party, Federalists, Democratic Republicans (early Republicans), 12th Amendment, Republican Party, Lincoln, bolter parties, party identification
