THE EXOPLANETS
In this activity, you will explore some of the data that astronomers have collected about exoplanets. Exoplanets are planets that orbit other stars (they do not orbit our Sun). The exoplanets are challenging our ideas related to solar system and planetary formation. Watch the overview video for how to do the lab (NOTE-In the video, I show a worksheet. You are not filling out a worksheet, you are responding to the questions below):
You will visit the following site to obtain up-to-the-minute information about exoplanets:
The Extrasolar Planet Encyclopedia
If the site doesn't work for you, you can find information about each star and their planets on Wikipedia:
- 51 PEG << Done as an example .
- HD 69830
- HD 190360 (aka Gliese 777)
- GLIESE 357
- KEPLER-444
- EPS ERIDANI
Now, let's go explore these distant star systems and their planets. Answer the questions below.
